Needs new designs and functions. Really stale lately Ultra 2 owner here. There are plenty of cheap e watches out there

Does Apple approve these discounts or is Amazon able to do whatever it wants? My mom has a series 6 that has a cracked screen and poor battery life so I got her one of these for mother's day.

Amazon owns the products they buy so the manufacturer has no ability to control their prices.

The 46mm titanium+milanese loop is also on sale for 639.99 and the 42mm is $599.

The 46mm titanium+rubber band versions are also available for $599

seriously why is this watch that's using tech from 2015 still 300 dollars?
It's a good question, but the big name competitors are similarly expensive. Unfortunately as much as I'm annoyed at Tim Cook, and I do find some annoyance in the way some things work with Apple Watches... they are still my favorite smartwatch by a LOT.

It's not that apple watches do any one thing particularly well, but they do everything good enough, and they have the talking minnie mouse watch face my mom loves, and the awesome snoopy watchface collection that I love. The competitors have nothing like those! lol

It leads me to a funny place where I'm using an apple watch and an android phone, and an obligatory iphone to keep the apple watch working lol.

Apple could control the price if it wanted to. However, Apple is one of the few companies that don't have/enforce an MSRP policy.

In Europe, manufacturers' control over (minimum) pricing would violate anti-trust law. Not in the US.

i wear a casio that's the price of a applewatch ($300) but its as simple and basic as their 20$ models just made of superior materials. the one for the japanese market.

12 month battery life. if it gets just enough sunlight it's gonna run forever. it syncs with the atomic clock from the radio waves it receives every night. does everything i need from it. time. date. alarm. stopwatch.

who needs to track steps, just look at yourself in the mirror. all my other personal information it does not need. that's for the braindead folks.

In the US it would simply because the manufacturers don’t own the inventory at stores. SCOTUS do allow agreements where companies can enter pricing agreements under, but they can be challenged as violating antitrust.

I doubt Amazon would enter such an agreement though.

Curious, have you researched any Android smartwatches? If so, any that came close?
Not reeeeeallly. Enough to know that watch faces like mickey & snoopy don't really exist. Again, they do some things better probably. There's certainly more variety and there's less brand-lock-in which is SWEET.

I'm not exactly a fan of the samsung or google watches though. Maybe there's some really cool other vendor I should've looked into. But I did get an apple watch in like late 2023 that I'm still really happy with? And I usually get like 4 years out of them so I'm fine for now.

It's really not that big a deal. Since the phone and watch are bound, i usually use my iphone when I'm out and my android phone at home. I have a z fold 4 still, and that phone is amazing for webtoons and random internet stuff when I'm just lounging around lol.

I’m in a similar situation..use both an iPhone (15 Pro Max, main daily driver) and a Pixel 9 Pro Fold. I’ve tried numerous Wear OS watches over the years, most recently the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Pixel Watch 3 and how close they come depends on how you use your smart watches. I rely my Apple Watch Ultra 2 for a ton of functionality (calls, messaging, fitness tracking and workout management, online and offline media consumption, i.e. podcasts, music and audiobooks, reminder and task managment, 2FA, just to name a few things) and neither of these models come close to fully replicating what I need. Third Party app support just doesn’t come close. Many of the apps I use don’t exist on Wear OS and many others don’t have functional parity, which really doesn’t make sense to me. I often use my smart watch without its accompanying iPhone and having full cellular support and functionality is important and again, neither of these Wear OS models matched up fully.

If you just need basic or smartwatch functionality, they do fine. If you are more of a power user, IMO, they fall quite a bit short.
