Apple desperately needs to update the baseline iPad with an A17/A18 chip and 8GB of RAM. Not even for Apple Intelligence, but because the 3 and 4GB are a bottleneck for developers releasing more robust iPad apps. Why would a developer make a special version of an app with more advanced features that target the Air and Pros when it won't be able to run on a the base models which make up a huge chunk of market share?

The 9 is cheap enough that you can treat it as a beater but 3gb ram is really a bad bottleneck these days. Likewise the iPad 10 at 299 has a fairly compromised screen and speaker setup, not sounding very good.

They are not terrible devices I. Their own right, but even at the discounted price I have a hard time considering them “good value”.

I’ve found the deals after ”prime day” and “Black Friday” to be Far superior. You may have to wait a few days, but in my lengthy experience I get them cheaper.

If you’re wondering how I know. I have a lengthy list of stuff in my ‘saved for later” in my basket. Some stuff has been in there for years.

You start noticing the patterns after a while.

It's better to wait for next years budget iPad.

I bought one. Nice Christmas present for my wife, replacing a much older one she is still pretty happy with. I'll take her old one and use it to replace the ancient one I use as a mixer touchscreen in my studio.
