Decent discounts. I would get one if I could set it up using my iPad.

You can, with this $20 adapter:

after initial setup, you can configure the Mac Mini to automatically connect with the iPad as main display with either direct usb c (dp/video) cable or wireless.

you just need that adapter once.

Thanks for the reply. Do you need a separate app with the initial setup using the adapter?

yes, there a various free apps that get the video feed from the adapter, MacRumors posted a guide in June, the steps are the same:

After initial setup, you can configure the Mac to use the native sidecar macOS -> iPad as a display without the need for an adapter or third-party app.

If you have access to Microcenter they show up as $450. Makes a great server for stuff.
I snagged the base Mac mini the other week for $449 from Micro Center. Finally got me to bite the bullet so I could move some dev projects off my aging 2018 Intel Mac mini.

The performance boost of the base M4 over the Intel i7 is unreal. Projects that took 30-45 seconds to compile in Xcode on the i7 take 8-10 seconds on the M4.

I bought one with intent to do that, although I have yet to set it up (I also bought a 2TB upgrade card to install)

What do you recommend setting it up to do?

I have an older synology that I think I’m going to steal Marco arment’s strategy (against his own advice) and use as an iSCSI drive and do backup to backblaze with.

What else could I do??

Plex Media Server
Scrypted
Docker (radarr, sonarr, overseerrr, prowlarr, and a billion other Plex-inspired things)
- Homebridge
- Paperless-NGX
- YTDL-Sub
- Kavita
- Portainer
- Homarr

Just a few random thoughts. If it's going to be always-on, it's nice that it's so low-power.

I just purchased the 512 model with the adapter for delivery tomorrow. Thanks for the help. Hope it goes smoothly.

Great computer at a fantastic price. Just bought a new base model M4 mini couple of weeks back and paid full price for it. Sadly no discounts in my region.

So what I’m inferring here is you got the base and are planning to upgrade the SSD? If so, very awesome, but keep the original in case you have to take it to Apple for any issues.

My use case is actually more in the automation field, and some AI. Even looking at the ways to chain them together.

On the media side…Plex. Leverage the thunderbolt since I probably should have gotten a better 10gb Ethernet.
