Amazon today has the 512GB 15-inch M3 MacBook Air for the all-time low price of $1,449.00, down from $1,699.00. This computer is available in Midnight, Space Gray, and Starlight at this price point, with an estimated delivery between September 27 and 29.

Amazon also has a deal on the 256GB 15-inch M3 MacBook Air, available for $1,099.00 in Space Gray, down from $1,299.00. This one is a second-best price on the notebook, and you'll find the same delivery estimate for most residences in the United States.

Apple updated these MacBook Air models back in March with faster M3 chips. The MacBook Air is an ideal computer for most people who need to accomplish day-to-day tasks and don't need a more pro-level computer for video or photo editing.

I'd love a 15" MBA but I don't really see the value in it vs a 14" MBP. Seems priced too high.

I'd care so much more about sales and these machines overall if I could swap in RAM & NVMe

The fixed "appliance" nature of these makes them basically all a non starter as the specs almost always suck

Maybe I missed the memo, but wasn't Apple Silicon supposed to make these cheaper without Amazon discounts?
They're free from the grasp of Intel right?
Yeah they are cheaper... to make... remember the goal is profit margin... you're just the lemon to be squeezed (ok bit harsh as the new Apple Silicon CPUs are great values... it's the RAM/SSD that's )

Nice. I saw some comments recently saying that hackintosh will soon no longer be viable, but unsure why. Any idea? It’s something that interests me.

Once Apple stops releasing new macOS versions with Intel builds, you'll be stuck with no newer than that

But they haven't even done that yet

I have no idea why people traffic in such FUD about everything

People act like the machines will just "shut down and stop working" ... They will do that no more than any other computer, including things like very expensive 2019 Intel Mac Pros

Hacks remain a very viable tool at this very moment and for several more years into the future
Also viable and useful are zillions of existing Intel Macs

Why people replace tools that adequately, if not admirably, accomplish the jobs they need done is beyond me. We have such a disappointing culture of needless and often mindless consumerism

I've actually been mapping out a new Hack build right now, as my i7 8700 CPU is getting a little long in the tooth on some gaming usages I partake in. Will go to either a 12 or 14 series to pair with my RX 6800 XT -- I think.

My current machine is just totally flawless though, so I continue to hesitate on pulling the trigger...seems wasteful to just dispose of a perfectly great MoBo + CPU. I'll probably keep waiting honestly. haha. I kind of enjoy the mental game of figuring out the build more than actually doing anything about it.

I figured that was the reason and I agree with your thinking on it.

I don’t want to veer too far off topic but is there a go to guide these days for diving into this world?

I got an M2 Air 15" 16/1TB right before the M3 came out for $1399. This doesn't seem like that big of a deal.
