If you have an Alexa you can request tracking information, and it will notify you of a delivery. Right now Amazon is crediting your account with $5 bucks if you “thank your driver”. For a delivery. I always go to my Amazon account and thank them there. But with Alexa you just say “Alexa Thanks for my delivery”.

do you have a reference for this? Seems odd that Amazon would give you $5 for saying thank you for every order

FYI You can also type "thank my driver" into the search box at Amazon.com.

I think I’ll pass.
1. I have no Alexa device in my house listening to my every word.
2. My last delivery was a huge heavy treadmill he left with my neighbour. He said we lived next door but he just said can you take it round and drive off. It’s about 200 meters to our front door to his.

I think you should edit this thread because the description of how the bonus program works is incorrect. Drivers receive the $5 and the total amount paid to drivers is capped.

This is Amazon's press release about the program:

according to the link the $5 thing was until 2 million "thank you", and that figure having been now reached, that part of the promotion is now over

My question is are the workers taxed on that money as income or a tip? Anyone know?

In this situation it's actually Amazon paying the money, not the customer, so I suspect the $5 will be taxed the same as any other bonus that Amazon might give to an employee.

Do Amazon's delivery drivers "regularly and customarily" receive tips? In my neighborhood they always just leave the packages outside and quickly depart without any interaction.

Delivery drivers are on the Treasury Department's list of occupations that qualify tax payers to be eligible for the tip deduction, but of course there's paperwork and reports to be filed to document the qualifying tip income.

Tips are still taxed as income but there's a new deduction that can greatly reduce amount of the tip income that's taxed.
