I just went to my AMEX rewards site & saw that there is an across the board sale of 40% off on all items including Apple products. They have all versions of the iPad 2 and iPad 1 in there for the same price as retail. I ended up ordering the 64GB 3g AT&T version which regularly cost 165,800 points, but was on sale for only 99,401 points. I had just over 100,000 points, so my iPad 2 was free.

I'm going to take the $300 Apple Store gift card I had to use on this & go get my wife a first gen 16GB WiFi model.

So I assume that many of you have an AMEX & use their reward points, go get yourself a free, or discounted, iPad today!

BTW, the fulfillment is done directly through Apple, so there are no worries about the item not coming from a reputable source.

I was planning to buy mine at a local Apple Authorized Retailer. Called them for stocking (they have plenty) but sadly discovered that they don't accept Amex anymore :-(. Best Buy it is then...nearest Apple Store is ~50 miles away.

Good grief....

100000 pts? Jesus... You spent 100000 dollars with amex? JESUS BUDDA OMG !

wow actually thanks for this information i can get the 32gb wifi for only $80 after using all my points.

Hey, thanks for the heads up on this. I only had about 11700 points left, but that was enough to get me a $100 Apple Store gift card for about $20. Cheers!

I just checked, for mine I have a 20% discount on all apple products, including the brand new ipad2.

Great way to get an iPad discount if you have bunches of reward points just sitting there.

We charge EVERYTHING to the AMEX, and as someone said, you get 2x, 3x, even 5x points for some purchases. Add in the fact that my wife uses hers for a ton of business purchases & you can accumulate 100k points pretty quick.

100,000 points is really worth $1000.

So Amex's redemption system for iPad is horrible.

So Amex charges 119800 points for a 32GB wifi model, 145000 points for 32GB 3g.

Even with 40% off points, it's still not a good deal I'll rather just cash out, get gift cards worth $100 per 10000 points and redeem ipad that way.

You gotta know the point system and play the game.

Wish i could do that i have just over 75k points

The way it works is they charge your card the full amount, but then they take all your points & issue a credit. If you don;t have the full amount of the device, they credit as many points as you have. So depending on the model you get, with 75k points, you will at least get a good chunk of it paid for.

I must be missing something because I only see 1st Gen iPads.

Amex points

@ CAWJR

Thanks for the info. I just ordred my white 3G 32GB IPAD, and with a 30% discount which cost me 108,076 points!!

I didn't even think about that!

Not sure where your math is coming from, but on my site a dollar for a gift card costs the same as a dollar for an iPad:

$100 GC = 11,990 points
64GB 3G = 99401 points

That means that a $100 GC translates to 119.9 points per dollar and the $829 iPad translates to 119.9 points per dollar

Some of Amex rewards redemption is horrible as I stated. I am a rewards person and love shopping around. I have Delta Plat Amex, Costco Amex Business, my wife has the Amex Premiere Reward Amex cards. So each Amex is a little different in terms of redemption points.

But traditionally I always look for 1000 points per $100 rewards redemption. If I don't get that, you are better off using those points for other things.

Like I just redeem my Chase Visa 50000 points for $500 straight cash.

I hear you & it certainly pays to shop around. If I had to pay the full 165,800 points that they wanted for the 64GB 3G, that would have been 200 points per dollar. No way I would pay that much, even in points!

But the way I saw it is that there is nothing else in the Reward store that I want or need right now, and I am going to get this anyway, may as well get it for free.

I do wish that AMEX would let me get straight cash for points!

Hmm. Something fishy about the Rewards program... I get a different (and much worse) ratio:

$100 GC = 20,000 points (200 points per dollar)

I do have the 20% offer including the ability to order an iPad2
