Amplifying Voice Memos?

Can anyone give me some tips/tricks on how to amplify voice memos (directly on the iPhone 3G or indirectly via a Macbook)? I'm going to start recording my professors lectures to study off of next semester and I tried recording on lecture during the fall semester but the voice/audio was very faint!

Find the recording in iTunes. Right click, Get Info, Options, Volume Adjustment.

Is there anyway to do this on the iPhone itself?

Not really. I would require something 3rd party. When you resync your iPhone though, the file on the iPhone may take the new volume adjusted level.
