I need a replacement for MSN messenger on my Mac, and the ones i've listed in the topic title appear to be the best that i can find. I need to be able to:
- View webcam
- Send webcam (built in iSight)
- Send/Recieve files
- Chat with @hotmail.com/.co.uk contacts

Can anyone recommend one (or more) of these alternatives?

this is a tough one - aMSN kinda sorta works, but doesnt really. Its not a universal binary, and is mind-numbingly slow. I've also not been able to get my isight camera to work - despite all my efforts.

I use adium now - and just do the non-AV chat. Its such a slick app - its fast (very very), its UB, has nice features. And I would so not be surprised if there's AV options coming soon.

I use Mercury Messenger extensively. It's a bit sluggish at time but it supports a lot and in about a month, there will be a new version that's more compatible with recent versions of MSN Messenger. Since it's Java-based, it will run on Intel machines without change.

I tried aMSN and while it was good, since I couldn't do Chinese, Japanese, or Korean, it was useless to me.

The new Yahoo! beta supports video though I have yet to try it for that. It will most likely be the replacement for Microsoft Messenger. It's supposed to support voice in a future version. It works smoothly for the 1st beta.

Fire and Adium are good but don't support video or audio, unless things have changed recently.

AV = Audio Video

And means that Adium and Proteus (AFAIK) are non-options.

I use Mercury also... I also had trouble with aMSN for whatever reason and gave up. Mercury is slow but usable, even on an iBook G4/800.... It's quite a bit peppier on my iMac G5/2.0. :)

I do wish Yahoo all the best with integration...I hope they proceed with AIM integration as well.

Mercury Messenger Problem

Can you help me? I have a Mac with Mercury Messenger too, but it keeps logging me out every five minutes because there's no ping reply or something like that :confused: ... Do you know how I can solve this problem?
