so took me phone to get checked at the genius bar with the "little rattle"

he said yeah "its the camera lens,and shouldnt be a problem"

i went to check display models and yeah some did / some didnt (tho tbh it was very noisy in there so couldnt hear much anyway)

so i asked an employee after that "why do some have it and some dont"

and he told me theres no official word from apple on it ...

any one know why some rattle and some dont ?

It is possible that the rattle, like previous iPhone's could be the actual sleep button or volume buttons or silent switch.

no that was because i was testing other iphones for it ...

I was told its common, so regardless of wether its a defect or not, why dont they all not rattle ? or all rattle ?

Its the lens and they all do it.

not all do when the phone is shook (lightly i may add)

but when tapping under the camera yeah they do.

Don't know what to tell you; every iPhone I have held since my 3GS did it. Now its possible that since its a freely moving part, it might sit in a way that doesn't make noise when you shake it in a particular direction while tapping it shakes it free from however it was sitting.

I know we all love our gadgets, but I hope that the day will never come when I find myself walking around a busy Apple store shaking iPhone's whilst muttering "this one rattles a little but this one doesnt WHATS GOING ON?!?!"

I'm not sure why it differs but I can share one thing. Not long ago I shattered the back of my 4S and bought a replacement OEM off of ebay. After replacing the back, I noticed it became one of the rattling models! It never was before I swapped or before the back shattered. I even swapped back to the old shattered back to listen and low and behold, it didn't rattle with the old back. But it does with the new. I'm guessing its got something to do with how well packed it is in there.

All of the iPhone's I have owned have had that rattle (or at least most of them has). None of them have had any functionality issues though.

Heck, I've been online for over three decades, have been a moderator, but of course also have been a new member of a forum so many times.
