A new Apple Store will be opening March 1 at the Trafford Centre shopping mall outside of Manchester, in the United Kingdom.

Apple's existing store at the mall will be permanently closed starting February 27.

Apple has not shared photos or details about the new Trafford Centre store, but you can expect a modern design that will likely include an Apple Pickup station for in-store pickup of orders that customers have placed on Apple's online store.

Apple Trafford Centre originally opened in 2005.

In other store news, Apple recently opened a new store in Miami, and it says another store in Downtown Detroit is coming soon.

(Thanks, Filip Chudzinski!)

Sounds like Apple thinks they can defeat the UK's attempt to force Apple into giving them a back door to snoop on iPhone users there (and everywhere).

So glad you clarified this and helped me avoid a faux pas. For a moment I though Apple might be releasing an app and accompanying physical space to meet like-minded nerds and sherlock Tinder and Grindr.

Eek! My main/prefered Apple Store - helps that it is open late and The Trafford Centre has free parking (at least for the moment...). Doesn't seem two minutes since the store was half the size/width it is now at the present location and a Subway had opened up next door.

Anyone know where abouts in the TC the store is moving to? Hopefully not too far from the Pret & Yo Sushi in the upper floor of Selfridges.

The closest one to me is around 60 miles away,
We have something called the Istore, that sells Apple stuff, I am surprised it is still open to be honest.

It's moving about 50 meters away. To the right if you are looking from the front. On the same level.

Is it moving into the old Burton/DP unit that’s just a few doors down (near Abercrombie & Fitch, and Zara)?
I have seen something from a property developer that suggested it was the old Dorothy Perkins unit as they cleared it out and made some structural changes to make it a blank canvas. The current page has a reference to Apple removed, but cached versions of the site mention Apple.

There are also planning notes on Trafford Council’s website that suggests it’s the old DP unit as well

Yeah I can imagine they’ve removed the internal wall that separated Dorothy Perkins and Burton.

but... Apple should pull out of the UK!!! :p
That's what she said!

Edit: Just a side tangent, but I miss the days where the Apple Store was exciting.

I remember being excited about the iPod coming out and the iMac, as well as seeing the PowerBooks and iBooks and being amazed.

Now I go in and it's just a bunch of iPhones, very few computers and the ones they have just aren't as impressive in appearance. Maybe I'm wrong or just jaded. There was something magical 20 years ago.
