While playing around iOS 16 beta, I keep encountering this problem. More often than not, when playing games, suddenly all edge swipe features are disabled (no, not guided access). I can take screenshots, I can play the game just fine, but can’t swipe from edge to do anything else. Since iPad Pro 2018 onwards have no home button, there’s no way to escape other than a force restart. The situation is so bad, even a normal shutdown is impossible.

That prompts me wondering: what if the iPad Pro we have right now has no physical button whatsoever? How would end user hard reset a frozen device, since everything runs on top of software? With physical button, at least you can wire it in such a way that it will always reset a device no matter what. Idk how it can be achieved with software only, or that special piece of software is so low level it works independently from the rest of system (like bios today). I can’t phantom the pain of having to visit Apple Store in the middle of a trip to reset a frozen device just because there’s no physical button anymore.

Yes I’m running iOS 16 beta and yes bug is expected and yes it has been reported. I just don’t like the “future” of a button-less device given software bug always present and unavoidable.

AppleTV is buttonless. Does Apple make any other buttonless devices? I don't think this is an issue.

And you can hold two buttons on remote or goto settings to reboot as long as it didn't totally lock.
You can’t do that on a buttonless device, but he’s, if it’s locked (which has happened a few time), it’s be a pain without a power detachment at the back
