White wasn't ready when the 4 launched because of the paint.
Seems like at the very least some black iPhone 5's aren't ready due to anodized aluminum scratching very easily. My dad's already shows some visible wear near the lightning port, he doesn't care though.
The colors have flip-flopped in terms of readiness
I just placed an order for a 32 white, can't wait to take it for a spin tomorrow. I realized, midst returning my black 32 for a hissing and buzzing earpiece (was originally planning on ordering another 32 black once they were available, and didn't want a genius bar swap to kill off the 30 day return policy, and now I'm glad I did) and using a handmedown white 4S (that I still have to sell..) that I really miss the look of the iPhone 4 and 4S in some regards.
The white back is nice because the aluminum reminds me of 1st gen.
The white front is nice, even though it shows Front cam and prox sensor, and is more stood out for apps that haven't been re-written for the 5, but it looks less awkwardly disproportionate in terms of its 16:9 stretch for whatever reason.
And I like that the front reminds me of the 4/4S because that phone did seem more proportionate in my opinion.
Just saying though... both colors are good
-black 3g, white 3gs, black 4 (no choice in the matter but was gonna go black anyways), white 4s, now soon-to-be white 5 users.
