An unknown error occurred with DFU mode

Hi,

My friend was trying to JB his iPhone. I was helping him out via Screen Sharing. Pwnage Tool kept on saying that his phone couldn't enter DFU mode so I suggested that he just try to enter DFU mode himself. Now iTunes does not recognize his phone and it says that an unknown error has occurred. What is going on?
