I have a Dazzle Analog to DV bridge that has a USB connection to the computer (RCA cables connect VCR on other end). I have used this to transfer VHS to DV on Windows machine (hated the experience and stopped doing it)

I now own an C2D iMac and want to try again, editing with iMovie and burning to DVD with iDVD.

My question: Is there a way to get iMovie (other other method) to import using the USB input? Must it be Firewire, if so, I need to buy more hardware.

As far as I know, it only recognizes FireWire. Some people may not like this, since cheaper alternatives you find at major retailers are all USB, but as someone who is in the video field, I can tell you this: USB is not sufficient to ensure consistent, high-quality video transfer. You're much better off with FireWire.

It isn't so much about "cheaper" as it is that I already own the Dazzle 80 which has a usb connection. While I recognize firewire transfers video better, I wanted to try the equipment I already own.
