Hi All, I'm new to the forums & this'll be my first post...
I just moved into an apartment that's decked out with a great audio system, all Bose: indoor and outdoor speakers that are all hooked up to a Sima stereo speaker selector [for 6 sets of speakers] (model SSW-L6ES. Here's the link to the technical info - http://amzn.to/a5EtQm ).
I'm basically trying to recreate a system that my tech-savvy ex-boyfriend jury-rigged together. While we didn't have equipment like this, he'd made a system that was fantastic for my/our needs.
What I want is something that will work with what I have now, and will also work when I move out and don't have all the fancy-schmancy stuff.
At the time, I believe everything worked off an Apple Express. To the best of my knowledge, we used Airfoil (<--still on my MacBook) to connect to a relatively cheap--but good--receiver that was hooked up to two big speakers (also relatively cheap, and that's the stuff I'll be able to keep and reuse when I'm outta this apartment). With iTunes running, nothing could stop me.
So right now, I've got the speakers and the speaker selector, but the damn landlord took the necessary piece to run them all, and brought it to another house she owns.
Did she own a receiver? ...or just a tuner? That's the main deal: I'm trying to figure out what I need to buy considering she's impossible to get a hold of and probably wouldn't know anyway. Let it be known that I'm on a serious, serious budget; all I need is something that's gonna Work, and that I can take with me when I leave so that I can make things work Again.
All the receivers I'm looking at are seriously pricey...is it totally necessary to have an $800 receiver to handle the Bose speakers and Sima selector? I'd like to spend $200 bucks at the most, if that's possible (sorry if that sounds silly).
Oh, and I'm a complete layman, so please go easy on me!
