Just a heads up to those who use Ancestry.com's Family Tree Maker (FTM) software for tracking family history. The folks at Ancestry.com have just announced that they're following everyone else down the Cloud rabbit hole and will stop supporting FTM after 1 Jan 2017 to focus on other parts of their business (code for "save money"). This is following on to their decision to force everyone on to their New And Improved (trademark applied for) user interface that most of their users dislike (flat look, bright colors, dumbed down - sound familiar?) as of a week from today.
Not that their current interface is all that wonderful, or FTM for that matter, but the changes seem to be an attempt to attract a different demographic mixed in with some deep-seated desired to look more hip. Does any of this sound at all familiar at this point? Time to look for alternatives.
