I have a shiny new network of Macs and PCs set up, and in an effort to eliminate some crust from an already crusty system that's being phased out slowly, I put two really old Macs--one running 7.6.1 and the other 8.0--onto the new network. This worked amazingly well--they pull IP addresses from DHCP, see each other and the new printers, and can access the internet properly.
Except for one thing: resolving domain names takes a ridiculously long time--10+ seconds per lookup. Everything else runs at normal speed (in fact, I was seeing 100K+ download rates even under System 7), and of course DNS lookups are fine on OSX Macs and Windows boxes on the same network.
It's not a big deal, but as usual with oddball issues I'm curious if anybody else has seen something like this, or if it's just me.
