I have now been on Android with my Galaxy S5 for a few months and wanted to update how I feel about the phone after switching away back in April of this year.
On the positive side, I do like the customization and love the big screen. I could never go back to the 4 incher that I had in my previous iPhone 5. Watching movies or TV or any video is a fantastic experience. Widgets are awesome and a quick way for me to get the information that I need in order to get started with my day.
I have recently switched to the Google Now launcher and am liking the experience over the native Touchwhiz launcher in the Galaxy S5. Battery life is good and I find that with the plastic construction and the easily replaceable back, I don't worry about dings as much as I previously did. I have found cool little nuances such as wifi sharing and the pedometer to be a valuable tool. Though I don't care much for the fingerprint sensor, I can tell you that pattern unlock suits me and is better than having to remember a code. The camera is great in daylight and the pics I take are clear and easy to share. I have been able to find Android versions of most of my iOS apps and in many cases they are free. Google Now doesn't answer me back but is much more useful than Siri was.
On the negative side. Bloatware, Bloatware, Bloatware, it really bothers me. I have many apps that I can't get rid of (I know I can root) stored on my phone. I really hate that ATT makes me take these things. Though the camera is great in daylight, as the situation gets darker, it doesn't perform as well as my old iPhone. Picture quality was better overall on my iPhone 5. There are also lots of what I call quirks with my day to day phone operation. For example, I was hiking on Sunday and had the lock screen on my phone and on a couple of occasions, the phone dialed 911. I had to eventually turn it off to prevent it from doing so. In addition, there are instances where the phone seems to lock up and not want to do anything, a reboot quickly solves the problem but it is kind of annoying that it does that.
As a music player the phone is adequate. The iPhone was much better at this and the sound quality was noticeably better. This is actually a big deal for me as I use my phone as a music player almost daily. Also I found that I am not as into the games on Android as I was on iOS and there is a quality disparity between Android and iOS, the iOS apps have just a little more "polish" to them, only just.
Overall I am not unhappy with my phone. Will I replace it with an iPhone 6? The answer really depends on what Apple delivers. One thing I do miss is the tight integration of the iPhone with the rest of the devices in my household. I am a mac user, Apple TV user, and iPad user. With Yosemite, that is only supposed to get better. My leanings are that I will switch back when I can, because even though Android is superior in many ways to iOS, there are other ways that iOS is better for me. I have a while to think on it. I can't do anything until May unless I buy out the S5. I just wanted to post this to maybe give a little switcher insight.
