I've run into an odd and entirely reproduceable problem where certain (and only certain) animated GIFs show up as greyscale when played in Quicktime. They show just fine in web browsers, Imageready, and even Preview.
Here's a page with a problem GIF on it:

...and this is mainly an issue because apparently the Mac version of Powerpoint 2004 uses Quicktime for playback of animated GIFs. So when somebody at my organization sticks this graphic into a PowerPoint presentation, when played back on a Mac it goes greyscale. Fine on Windows, which one assumes does not use QT for GIF playback.
Any ideas what the heck is wrong with this thing? I made the GIF myself years ago with a free tool, and I've tried re-saving it with Imageready or GraphicConverter with no effect at all. Oh, and incidentally, the static parts of the image are still in color--just the parts that change are greyscale.
