Immediately upon the screen turning on, the edges of the screen on my 3GS are all faded white. (Lets say I'm charging it and turn the screen on with the battery icon on the screen - it should be just about all black, but the edges are faded white). I'd say about 1/2 inch on each side (Left, right, top and bottom) - it's almost like a vertical rectangle. Gets VERY annoying after awhile.

It very quickly "Fades" into the correct color (black in this case). I'd say typically in less than 1/2 second. It's weird, sometimes the problem is very bad (as I described it), and at other times the effect is very light, but still noticeable.

I'm pretty sure the Apple store would replace it, but I'm just curious to see if anyone else had had a similar problem?
