Another AirPort Extension Question

I know that an AirPort Express can only extend the signal of another AirPort base station, but can it extend the signal of a Mac with internet sharing turned on and "Share your connection from Ethernet To computers using AirPort" selected? I would expect the computer itself to act as an AirPort base station and allow the AirPort Express to extend the signal, but I didn't know if anyone had tried and knew for sure. Thanks!
