ok i have a question, if you buy a computer with applecare at the same time at the apple store, does that applecare automatically get registered to that computer? or will you have to do that yourself?

i've discovered that the student adc discount only applies to the hardware and applecare is at regular price, so if you buy the applecare seperately with the edu discount, its so much cheaper

only reason why im asking about this is because of all the threads that peopel are starting where they say that their apple is a lemon. they receive it broken and apple doesnt do anything about it or gives them a hard time, I want to prevent that as much as possible.

You have to call and register your hardware for AppleCare.

As for getting a lemon out of the box, that would be covered under the standard warranty so don't worry about AppleCare if that's your only concern.
