Another choice

A friend of mine that uses the laptop as a desktop replacement dosen't know if he wants to go with the 17'' MBP or the new rMBP.

The difference in prices is 500 USD.

What would you recommend ?

Pointless question without telling us what he uses his machine for. Usually leaving this info out implies that it doesn't matter at all - have him decide for himself what size screen he wants and how much he wants to spend.

He uses the machine for the following:

- Website design
- Word Processing and Spreadsheat
- Some programming
- Games

Either machine will work fine for him.

The question really boils down to form factor. Do you want a 17" MBP or a 15".

Personally, I like what the 15" rMBP has to offer and I'd recommend that but its my personal preference.
