This probably sounds a bit too crazy, but I'm actually interested in enabling HiDPI mode on a 1366 x 768 TV. Has anyone successfully accomplished this?
After following the posted instructions (including downloading XCode and running Quartz Debug), I'm unable to see any HiDPI modes. My guess is that the HiDPI modes probably won't show up unless I'm using a 1440 x 900 or higher resolution display. Some users have also guessed that the feature no longer works in Lion 10.7.2.
I'm following these instructions:

Even though I acknowledge that my workspace would be pretty cramped, I would rather have that then to squint from the couch. Windows 7 looks very impressive in 120 dpi mode on this TV, and I'm hoping to accomplish something similar in OSX Lion, even if the resulting GUI elements are super-oversized.
For reference, I'm outputting the display from a MacBook Air 11, Core i5, Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI. I'm using OSX Lion 10.7.2, but haven't tried it using older variants of Lion yet.
Maybe It's time to [finally] move to a 1080p TV...?
