Another iMessage question

Can someone tell me what this speech bubble with the three dots indicates?

I thought it meant that the other person is typing but it appears for 5 seconds after they have sent the message and then disappears.

The other party is typing back. Not sure why you're getting it after the fact.

It can also appear if their cursor is in the box to type, then disappear if they close the app. It really doesn't show that they are actively typing.

Yeah thats what I thought it was but it comes up then nothing is received?

It's not like Whatsapp when it says "... is typing" after which you would get their message.

Exactly! We were using it last night and I saw the same thing a few times. It was there for the few seconds it took to read my message, then close the app.

I got curious and asked, to get to the bottom of it.

If you've got nothing better to do than sit and stare at your phone while waiting for a text message....I suggest you get out more...maybe find a hobby or 2.

Oh grow up, i have plenty to do in my life yet have often had text conversations where I've waited for a response.
