iPod touch another iPod Touch sync problem

have several apps loaded - went to install another couple more - but i cannot get them to sync at all. have spent several hours trawling forums and have tried lots of different suggestions, but i still cannot get it to sync!

please note:
- the apps are compatible with the ipod touch
- the ipod has the latest drivers and has never been jailbroken
- i have tried switching off completely and restarting and have used different cables and different usb ports etc

any other suggestions? just trying to avoid doing a complete factory reset

just for completeness in case anyone has similar issue - i couldn't find any reason why this failed nor could i get it to work again - so in the end, i backed up my ipod - printed out my albums/movies etc to a PDF - performed a factory restore - then restored my settings etc - and now all my applications downloaded to my ipod as they should have...

so now working...

just have to re-copy across my songs and movies manually album by album
