Hey everyone

Finally getting there with my new Mac Mini, thanks for all the help btw everyone.

Right next thing I've found today setting it up, I've found that the Mac Mini isn't waking my monitor after its been asleep. Is it something I'm doing wrong? The monitor I've got is Ben Q SW270C and when the Mac mini has been asleep I can see the monitor power button flashing indicating sleep. I press the magic mouse and can hear the external hard drives spin up but no picture on monitor.

I have to press power button to turn off monitor and turn it on again which then displays the screen. Might be just a setting in monitor or on Mac.

Also is there anyway of stopping the Mac mini logging me out when it goes to sleep, just bit of a pain having to enter password each time.

For the password prompt after waking from sleep, that is a system setting that has long been in the same place:

Apple Menu > System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General > A login password has been set for this user > Require password [pulldown menu] after sleep or screen saver begins

Uncheck the latter.

I don't know anything about your monitor. Read the owner's manual carefully to see if there's a specific setting needed.

You should also consult the monitor manufacturer's website to see if there is a firmware update for the device.

There may be some sort of odd incompatibility between the Mac mini and your specific monitor. I've read other accounts of people (here and on other sites) complaining about their Macs not waking up properly with whatever monitor they are using and there doesn't appear to be a single solution.

I would try other monitor connections if available. A different cable, a different port, whatever. You don't give any specifics on how they are connected or what other ports are available on the monitor. A photo of the back of the monitor where all the ports are might help people here give suggestions.

Anyhow, best of luck.

It's connected via USB C cable. It doesn't seem to wake the monitor either when the Mac mini has turned on which is a bit annoying.

I'll try other cables today.

Here's the "fishrrman's stupid display fix":

Don't put it to sleep.
The Mini uses very little more power when it's "awake, but idle" than it does when "sleeping".
Next-to-nothing, really.
So just leave it "awake", but set "display sleep" instead.

To do this:
- Open the energy saver preference pane
- Set "turn display off after..." wherever you like
- Put a check into "prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off"
- Now, open the desktop & screen saver pref pane
- Pick a screen saver on the left
- Click the "hot corners" button in the lower-right
- Select a corner (the upper right corner works for me), and pick "start screen saver"
- Close system prefs.

Now, when you're going to be away for a while, just shove the pointer into the hot corner, and the screen saver should begin.

When you come back, RIGHT CLICK the mouse. That brings things back for me.

ANOTHER, even easier way to handle things:
If you're going to be away from the Mini for a while, just "reach forward" and TURN OFF the display.
When you come back, turn it on, then right-click the mouse.
