Hi All,

I am thinking of upgrading my MBP HD. It's a mid 2007 MBP 17", 2.4g Intel Core2Duo. Still under Applecare. Alas, I've only got 15gb left on my 160gb drive.

I'd like to get the largest HDD possible within reason, pricewise (SSD looks a few years away). It looks like the largest notebook drive available today is 500gb, but it's been that way for awhile. Is there any site like Macrumors that tries to predict when new hard drives will come out?

From reading around, it looks like the Western Digitals are the favorite on the board. Am I missing anything here? Is there any big issue I haven't thought of in doing this?

Thanks.

Best,

Seagate released a 2.5in 640GB external hard drive I think 1 or 2 months ago. So the next larger 2.5in hard drive will probably be 640GB.

Didn't Intel recently announce that SSD prices will be down real soon because they are introducing cheaper SSD's that go over 300 gigs?

No, since they released it already, it would be the current one, not the next. The next would probably be 750.

As I said earlier, a 1TB SSD is already out there.

Where the heck do you find the 640 GB drive from Seagate, all I see is the 500's from Seagate on Tigerdirect's website and newegg????

Thanks for all the replies. This has to be the fastest set of BBS replies I've ever gootten.

As you might guess, the 1TB SSD is a little rich for my blood at the current pricepoint but I'm impressed with the cheapness of the 500gb drives, which is why I thought maybe a newer, larger notebook drive was on the horizon . . . .

I also don't see any 640gb notebook drives for sale anywhere.
