Hi guys,

I've recently been seeing a lot more of our friend, Mr. Spinning Beach Ball, on my late-2011 QC 2.2GHz 4GB MBP as I have more music production software running. I did a bit of research on the forums and concluded that I should probably upgrade my RAM to the maximum allowable.

The Crucial site listed "16GB kit (8GBx2) DDR3 PC3-10600 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V" (quoted as $165.99) as the compatible model. I looked up the corresponding part number on Amazon and was surprised to find that it's $195.99 there (http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3-1...UTF8&qid=1412725939&sr=8-1&keywords=CT3327378).

1) Any idea why there's such a big markup? (I'm used to Amazon having the lowest prices for something.)

2) I also found a similar model (every spec the same except with "PC3-12800" instead of the "PC3-10600" on Crucial's website) going for $136.57. (URL: http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3-1...d=1412726108&sr=8-1&keywords=16gb+ram+crucial) Would that be compatible as well?

Thanks a bunch in advance! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Given they now collect sales tax, I am not used to Amazon having lower prices than B&H, Adorama, or Newegg.

Suggest you go the route of a Samsung EVo 840 SSD. I have put 5 of them into older MacBooks and it makes all the difference.

Ah, didn't know that (too used to Amazon's everyday low prices in the non-technical equipment world ;)). And thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely look into it.

I'd be inclined to go with Crucial's advice but I'm sure if you ask them direct they will double-check it for you.
