iPod another one about the video ipod

Hi!
just ordered an ipod video, anyway now I am searchin all over the internet for a good way to convert AVI not DVD, into a format that my ipod will be able to play!!
DVD, no pleblem... I used Handbrake but avis? doesn't seem to work...

I followed this obscure tutorial about ripping porn (?!) with ffmpegX but what I end up with is a file called .avi.ff.264 which iTunes doesn't play...

my question:
do all video-files be able to play i iTunes in order to play on my ipod???

That ffmpegX tutorial probably worked, but the name of the file might be weird. Trying changing the name of the file so that it is something like XXXXXXX.MP4 . It is never a good idea to have periods (.) within the name of a file because then the computer doesn't know what to use to open it.

I don't think all files that work in iTunes, work on the iPod. You can pretty much add any resolution of video to iTunes, but the iPod can only handle a maximum of something like 640-480 mpeg video.
