After messing about trying to get it back to English (I've given up on that) I've now got a frame around the video, how do I get rid of it? I liked VLC has it was only video, far nicer than this damn frame. Any one know how to get rid of it?

Do you mean the brushed metal around the video? That showed up in 0.8.5 betas. I recommend going to videolan.org to find out why.
Temujin: That didn't help, already tried it. It still had the frame and French in the menus.
Now I know it's from the 0.85 release (Thanks Counterfit), I've ditched that and got 0.84 back. No more French, and no frame. Far better all the way IMO.
