Is anyone else a bit beside themselves with the messaging apps? Messenger on all platforms shows prior contacts and latest message as their first screen. For the last decade, you cannot reopen the app and determine whether you or the other recipient was the last to message without opening their personal chat.

👏Every👏Other👏System👏Has👏This👏

As far as I know, it's always indicated by You: in the preview. It's obvious who said what when you click on an individual chat stream, but here comes another year of opening Messages, and trying to figure it out.

Is it just me? Why is this such a weird thing?

You can't tell from the message it's self? I would remember what I wrote for instance, I don't see this as a priority for Apple.

Sounds like it could be an option in accessibility though.

Why would I need to see if I or the other recipient had the last word?
Sometimes I read messages and think "I will answer later". Since there is currently no option to unread them, I ended up forgetting.

The option to unread them in iOS 16 fixes my problem, but it's true other messaging apps have this. It's kind of a standard now.

You can certainly infer it from the content, yes. But in the preview, it's ambiguous.
