Anthropic, makers of the Claude AI chatbot, are close to launching a new voice assistant to rival OpenAI's similar option for interacting with ChatGPT, according to Bloomberg.

Unless plans change, the new "voice mode" feature could be released as soon as this month – nearly a year after OpenAI began rolling out its own equivalent to users.

The feature, which will be available in the Claude iOS app and likely elsehwhere, reportedly includes three voices named Airy, Mellow, and British-accented Buttery.

Anthropic has previously said it is working on a voice mode for Claude, but it has not officially revealed a planned launch window or any other details. The feature was discovered in Anthropic's code by app researcher M1Astra.

Anthropic recently launched a new feature for its Claude AI assistant called "Research," aimed at providing thorough, citation-supported answers by drawing from online sources and corporate customer data. The tool is Anthropic's answer to OpenAI's Deep Research, which debuted earlier this year.

In addition, Claude is gaining support for Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs, enabling users to query and interact with their Google Workspace content for more efficient task and information management.

Why this month? Why not now?
Just make the prompt and voila!
You have voice mode!
Just Vibe Coding and release, no tests needed. 😁

This is the main feature I've missed while using Claude, so glad to see it coming.

Hopefully they add image generation down the line, too

Can those who use Claude let me know its benefits compared to OpenAI? I had a play with it but didn't see much reason to give up my ChatGPT subscription, which I use for work stuff. However, I'm keen to hear other people's experiences.

I love GPT's voice feature and use it very much like an assistant. Sometimes, it can take a while to prepare the talkback for longer responses, but overall, it's excellent. It's a shame Apple missed the boat with AI and its assistant aspect, especially. It would be ideal to have GPT, or Apple's own, to be native in my iPhone/Mac the way Siri works instead of opening the GPT app every time.

Same the ui is really bad imo compared to gpt and Gemini. From my experience Claude is more human like in its default mode (if you were to ask it to write an essay or something like that), but that’s not worth it for me given the garbage ui. GPT has voice mode, reasoning mode, image generator, much better desktop app, etc. that puts it way ahead of Claude for me. Also when I give gpt o1 a writing sample for it to model off of it becomes much more human like.

I've used Claude Code for a few months and it has been pretty remarkable. I just jumped into Cline+GPT 4.1 yesterday to compare, so we'll see how that goes. From a non-developer standpoint, I think 4o is still the best general use AI.

I can’t wait till these things learn to prompt themselves and start yapping like 13 year old girls

Long time Claude user here. Claude 3.7 with extended "reasoning/thinking" (PR term for calculations) still struggles with math in story based problems. But sure let's focus on voice mode so incorrect content/misinformation can be enjoyed over voice. So smart. So intelligent.

Claude Pro 3.7 Extended is the only mode to use. And it is much better at text-based (non-math) stochastic answers, for qualitative queries. Gemini 2.5 Advanced might be best overall right now but it's only a valid option if you use Gemini under Google's business services (with offers full private usage without AI training) versus the consumer versions of Gemini that use all input for training, e.g. it's not privacy respecting.

Good to know about this. Though I don't use voice mode usually for the AI's, definitely looking forward to trying this out once it is released.
