Anti virus...?

I'm sure this question has been asked millions of times before!!!

Do I need to install some antivirus software. I don't do doggey sites but think that maybe I should have it. I would be reticent to have it if it affected performance, as at the moment only have 4 gig of ram. If it's necessary, whats the best? Used avast on the old Pc.
 
You are correct... it has been asked a million times before :)

Do a search from the menu bar on antivirus and you will find a number of recent threads on the subject
