Ok so i'm looking for somewhere to clip an antistatic wristband on my macbook while i just change the RAM
1) Is it really necessary to take this precaution?
2) Where can i find bare, unpainted metal to clip it to?

Don't install it while wearing socks on a carpet. If you really are paranoid about it, touch some metal while installing it.

Don't worry about ESD that much, just be smart.
Keep the cat locked up, and if you want to take the extra step, buy a tub of Nair and do the install naked.

Maby try clipping it to the HDD screws or something.

Appropriately grounding yourself before touching the machine should be sufficient, especially for quick work like a RAM upgrade.

I usually just touch a metal desk or file cabinet.
