I'd like a 30" monitor to go with my iMac. I know the 30" ACD isn't compatible. What about the Dell 3007wfp? Any others?

After taking a look at some specs up to and including the latest iMacs, it notes that the maximum resolution they will support on an external display is 1920x1200 (the resolution of the 23" ACD) rather than the 2560x1600 that is normally native for 30" screens (Apple's, Dell's etc.) which requires a dual-link DVI connection. Based on this thread:

it would appear that the iMac external display connector will not support even 1920x1200 on a 30" ACD (hence the same would be true for anybody's 30" since they all require dual-link).

Running a 30" at less than the native 2560x1600 would less than stunning anyway, so it appears that the 23" ACD or other monitors that run at 1920x1200 for their native resolution would be the best that you can hope for. Samsung has a 27" one that runs at 1920x1200, and Hanns-G and Viewsonic have 28" ones that do though I am sure there are others. I just found those examples at newegg.com.

As noted, you cannot run a 30" display at it's native resolution. If you want maximum available screen real-estate, consider a 26-27" LCD which runs at 1920x1080.
