So my bro's fender guitar amp stopped working (no sound) and while I was looking into fixing it. I thought about buying him an iPhone accessory that will work just like a guitar amp, and perhaps use our floor standing speakers as the sound output. He won't be interested in a small integrated speakers.

Has any of you try this before? Any recommendation?

There are actually plenty of amp simulation apps in the AppStore that will work with the iPhone. None of them will ever come close to a real amp, but they'll get the job done while the amp is getting fixed.

In all honesty, I'd suggest getting a Line 6 Spider IV 15 watt combo. It's only $100 and sounds fairly decent for a practice amp. I use this amp for practicing at home, as my blasting through my halfstack is not conducive to a NYC apartment!
