i already backed up by time machine.

another ?

can i just 'copy and paste' apps from the TM backup to the app folder without restoring the whole TM backup files ??

so i keep my mac speedy

Most apps can be downloaded from the net so I would reinstall them rather than drag&drop as there might be some issues, especially with bigger ones.

Use Migration Assistant to restore your documents and apps from your Time Machine backup; it won't cause any performance issues on your new 10.6 installation. It's also a HUGE timesaver vs. installing and configuring all of your applications again.
