I have been looking for a video I was on from back in the 90s and I finally found it on some website and I downloaded it but its a .ram file and when I tried to open it I get the following message..

"Your input can't be opened
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://62.108.31.8/busyr/hiphop/Cross_Movement_-_Cypha_Time_video.rm'. Check log for details."

What can I do? Is it possible to open this file and see the video?

Thats a RealMedia file. It's basically a link to a server that streams the RealMedia file..Real Player by Real.com might still have a working Mac version.

Ahhh...but it might have been connected to a live stream that is no longer available correct?

See the above quote...

Looking at the filename, it appears to be a pointer to a streaming video posted online, are you sure you actually downloaded the video?

If worst comes to worst, play it directly from the web site with QuickTime screen cap turned on.

It's a private server ..I'm guessing a person with a dynamic IP address.

But it's still a file that associated with the RealPlayer.

I'm sure that I just downloaded the file but not sure if there is a video. It's suppose to be a music video tat I was in back in the 90s that was filmed by some guys that my friend knew that i have no way of contacting. I finally found it and wonder if there is even any video on it.

I'm guessing noone noticed that the OP url doesn't give any data..?

Explain?
