A family member is looking to pick-up a MBP, and he plans to run Aperture to work with photos. At this time, he's not using a super fancy camera, but probably will upgrade to a DSLR at some point, so maybe RAW is in the future.
Anyway, I have never used Aperture, but I was thinking that a 2D app like that wouldn't depend on the GPU that much. However, reading in another thread, someone mentioned that Aperture actually uses the GPU quite a bit.
1) Is that true?
2) Is there any benefit/reason to get the MBP with 256MB VRAM instead of the lower-end model with 128MB?
3) Is the current MBP GPU satisfactory for Aperture in every way, even for RAW?
I don't want this family member to over-spend by $500 on the 256MB VRAM MBP if it's not necessary, but at the same time, it'd be foolish to save that much if it affects his main intended use.
Thanks!
Mike
