Are there any polling apps out there similar to eClicker (host and client), but are able to function over Bluetooth? I've looked around and can't seem to find one, so it might not exist, but maybe one of you has come across one. I know Bluetooth can only support a theoretical maximum of 7 connections at a time, but sometimes I just don't have a Wi-Fi network.
For example, I'm a band teacher, and after I gave the iPad a test run last year for things like drill charts, music scores, student rosters, tuners, metronomes, instant replay, etc., about half our marching band staff will be sporting iPads this upcoming season, and we're taking advantage of incorporating iOS apps into anything that can benefit. The bus rides to our band camp and two of the state competitions are over 2 hours away (we're near Chicago... we go to ISU and UIUC, our camp being near the latter), so we take coach buses to those. Since the coach buses have screens and DVD players and we always take a good selection of DVDs with, I thought it'd be cool to try and let the kids vote on a movie via a Bluetooth polling app, rather than taking the time to count a lot of raised hands on a crowded bus. Even with the Bluetooth limit of 7 at a time, I figure they can each vote on their iPods or iPhones as convenient once they get on the bus, and if they are too many people connected to vote, they can just try again in a moment. Bus doesn't have Wi-Fi, and stupid me I got the AT&T iPad with no Wi-Fi hotspot ability.
Obviously another option would be to just have one polling device at the front of the bus and everyone can just tap it as they board, but I imagine that's harder to make sure no one votes more than once... an open system would obviously allow multiple taps, though a login system would clog up the aisle.
