Minnesota is actually pretty well known for having a few really nice casinos. Plus the gambling age is 18.
I go maybe 3... 4 times a year. It's fun. I usually just do slots and talk with friends for 4-5 hours a time. Played Roulette a few times and won big but also lost big at times. Play occasional blackjack, it's enjoyable with a good table with fun people to talk to.
Anyone have advice on an easy way to memorize the blackjack mathematical rules? I have a tough time knowing when to hit, split, and quit.
It takes time and experience to remember all the generally accepted "rules". It can be pretty situational, too.
Split anything under 10's against a dealer 4-5-6 (and maybe 2 or 3, it depends on how much you're better, whether you're up or down, how aggressive you want to play, etc.).
I always double on a hard 11. Double on a hard 10 if the dealer has a 9 or less showing. And if you want to get aggressive, double on a hard 5-6-7-8 if the dealer has a 4-5-6 showing because you're banking on the dealer busting when they're showing 4-5-6. Again, it depends on whether you're up or down, how much your bet is and if you want to play aggressively or conservatively.
I usually play pretty coservatively when the dealer has a 2 showing. SOme consider the 2 a bust card but in my experience, more often than not they end up making a hand when they have a 2 showing, so I don't get too reckless hoping they'll bust when they have a 2 showing.
I hit on hard 16 when the dealer is showing 7 or higher. People seem to be about 50/50 when it comes to hitting on hard 16. You need to assume the dealer is going to pull a 10, and a 16 doesn't be a 17-21. Whether you hit or not on a hard 16, I think you just need to stay consistent. The ONE time you decide not to hit it is the time you SHOULD have hit it, and vice versa. Stay consistent.
There are a ton of other little nuances I'm overlooking, those are some of the tips that just came to the top of my head.
