realise this is a silly question, but given the amount of money i'm about to
spend on a PB i have to ask. Are there any rumors for a PB update anytime
soon? my deadline for ordering is late next week....

There aren't any "serious" rumors so far. The PowerBooks could be updated next week, and are best hint will be if shipping goes up in the next few days.
