Hi,

i am going to America at Xmas so was wondering if there were any cheap but decent chromebooks that anyone would recommend.

Thanks

For the price, the only one worth getting seems to be the new ARM powered ones from Samsung. They are out of the stock everywhere at the moment but hopefully more will come in by the time you get here. Your other options are the older Samsung and the new Acer. Both run Celeron processors but the older Samsung costs $450. The Acer is actually the cheapest one at the moment at $200, but has a HDD instead of an SSD and battery life is only 3 hours which seems to go against the reason why anyone would get one in the first place.

Might as well get a tablet or a proper laptop for the money TBH. Even with the cheaper ones, a Nexus 7 is a far better deal.

Wait until next year when the high end Chromebooks are updated with newer models. Those are the only ones worth getting.

With the internet changing as fast as it is right now, you're not going to get much out of the Acer and the Samsung model they just introduced. They are low end, have cheap hardware, and yes, the Acer one has a horrible battery life. But the biggest problem will be a year or so later when the hardware won't be able to support the various improvements in graphics and video, etc that we'll see by then.
