This might seem like a silly question, but when playing Civ 5, the fans run near full speed on the 13" rMBP.

Playing this game for an hour or two, with the computer in clamshell mode and fans at full blast... is there any 'danger' to the computer or its components? Or is this just how it is with a laptop and gaming?

Answers to both of your questions, in order:

No.Yes.

It's this way with any computer and gaming. Using the CPU and GPU generates heat. The fan dissipates the heat. It's a bit more noticeable on a laptop considering the size of the fans. They have to spin more to move more air.
