Having heard about all the overheating problems with the MBP, it sounds like a good idea to install smcfancontrol. I'd just like to know are there any dangers associated with running it? Does running the fans more lead to them failing? Will it void my warranty? Any other problems/dangers?

Just make sure when you arent using it, you set the speed on default because the temp could shoot up and your setting might be too low to cool the computer. If your speed is shooting up to 170*F and your speed is only at 2550RPM, set it to default and let it do it for you.

I have used it and it works fine. Just dont burn out the fans or cpu from misuse.
