I bought my mom a new early 2011 13" model for around 1100. It comes with 500gb, i7, 2.7Ghz, 4gb ram. Is the late 2011 model significantly better or did I get a bad deal? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Decent price. Use it and enjoy it. Late 2011 was almost a negligible jump. 2.8 cpu instead of the 2.7 and a 750gb HDD versus the 500. For that you would pay $1499 versus the $1100 you paid. NOT worth the $400 difference.

Oh ok so not so bad a deal. I passed on 250gb of space and .1ghz of speed. Not bad. Thanks a lot by the way.

Oh no I bought it from a friend's friend who got it off a promotion at his job. Trust me I would of posted here if they sold it online at that price. ;)

That's a great price. With the money you saved, you could put in a small SSD for the OS and apps and it will feel significantly faster than the fastest MBP 13" with HDD.

Yeah.. Great deal. And kudos to you for buying your Mom such a nice present. Seems many kids these days would buy her a box of chocolates then spend the $ on themselves. My hat's off to you.
