Can't decide between regular AW7 and the Nike version. Initially I thought the two were the same, with Nike version getting additional watch faces, and Nike bands. BUT some comments on the web have mentioned using Siri will allegedly force Nike apps over stock watch apps. Example - telling Siri to start a run will start Nike Run Club instead of the default Workouts app. Other comments mentioned when you say "Start an outdoor run" Siri gets confused and doesn't which app to open - NRC or default app.

Can someone confirm if the above is true? I wouldn't want NRC dominating the watch experience.
  • If the defaults are set to Nike, is there a way to change this so that Siri launches standard AW apps instead?
  • Are the Nike watch faces even worth getting the Nike version?
  • Any other disadvantages you can think of getting the Nike version?

No other real downsides to the Nike version, unless you have an issue with Nike the company.

My first Apple Watch was a Nike version and some of the faces are nice but I ended up using the Siri face most of the time so it didn’t really matter to me. To my mind, the nest thing about the Nike version is the bands. The sport band is my favorite band of all so that makes it worth it in my mind.

As far as the actions, I’ll let someone else reply as I haven’t used the Nike version in a while. I can say that the default was to have Siri start a run through the Nike app. Not sure if that is still the case.

I never use Nike Run Club and I never asked Siri to "Start a run". I did just try it though and it did default to NRC.

I usually just use the workout icon to start a run. I'd never considered using Siri to do that.

You can change it by going to the Nike Run Club option in the Watch app on the phone and changing the slide "Show App on Apple Watch" to off, and then it will default to the regular workout.

I bought the Nike edition for the strap but I don't use the faces or apps.
