I have a FW800 Drobo w/ 4 drives in it. If I removes those 4 drives together and put in 2 new drives can I later access the 4 old drives if I reinsert them as a set or will Drobo erase them?

Any drive you replace in to DROBO, should be formatted or it will format it as a part of preparing the inserted new disk for DROBO RAID and stuff.
So, all that you should do is, try accessing those drives from a different system other than Drobo.
