any easy/cheap way to add usb3 to 2011 27" imac

got a refurb 2011 model for a good price and love it, would never have afforded the 2012 model.


however the only main loss is usb3, i have a few external drives and its not that important but would be nice to speed up copying between them. ive looked and only option ive seen is a thunderbolt hub which looks very nice and prob isnt overpriced at 300 euro, but is there any cheaper way?

Caldigit has a Thunderbolt hub with 3x USB 3.0 ports which seems to be cheaper than most of the competition, only problem is there is a waiting list so it can't be purchased straight away. Might be worth considering if you're not in any hurry though.

Check the reviews on Amazon US and Amazon UK (and elsewhere) for whatever Thunderbolt Docks you are looking at. At least one of them seemed to have bad reviews.
